Job Summary:  

The 2nd shift Cultivation Manager reports to the location’s Director of cultivation. This role will support all areas of cultivation.  Daily activity needs and tasks may need to be adjusted to support the facility's needs.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Oversee the operational management and business activities of the cultivation department. 

  • Implement and enforce SOPs, methods, policies, objectives to advance cultivation, and ensure continuing operations to increase productivity and ensure regulatory compliance.  

  • Monitor environmental data points and HVAC system to prevent system failure and loss of crop.  

  • Coordinate care for all needed areas of cultivation including selection, watering manually, pruning, defoliation, running trellis nets, sanitation, potting, transplanting, fertigation through automated systems, mixing nutrients, and other needed tasks the Director of Cultivation may have. 

  • Oversee any aspect of cultivation needed. 

  • Assist facility leadership in the development and execution of the facility production schedule.  

  • Set and maintain inventory levels based on cultivation schedule and sales forecast.  

  • Partner with Data Analytics to collect grow and environmental data for future facility and plant growing techniques.  

  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing tactics including Six Sigma to identify, scope and implement processes, technologies, and systems to continuously improve product quality as well as operational effectiveness and efficiency.  

  • Manage department budgets and prepares reports for Cultivation leadership.  

  • Utilize KPIs to monitor, adjust, reward, and optimize company operations performance.   

  • Partner with Compliance to meet regulatory standards for their department including document records, inventory counts, etc.  

  • Direct and oversee cultivation employees, including leading pre-shift meetings/huddles and assigning work;  

  • Provide coaching and direction to cultivation employees. 

  • Appraise and monitor employees’ performance, including address any employee complaints or issues; discipline employees as appropriate for violations such as, attendance.; conduct one-on-one meetings with employees regarding performance issues or complaints; and submit coaching/write up documents to be presented to employees. 

  • Partner with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition to address headcount and staffing needs. 

  • Conduct interviews of candidates, select candidates to advance in the selection process, and make recommendations as to staff hiring decisions.   

  • Provide suggestions, recommendations, and input regarding personnel decisions, including hiring, firing, and promoting staff members in partnership with Human Resources and the Director of Cultivation. 

  • Utilize all internal tracking systems, ERP and QMS to ensure consistent products and high-quality control.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.  

  • Three (3) years’ experience in management/leadership roles.  

  • Advanced knowledge of cannabis cultivation including organic living soil, permaculture, and horticulture.  

  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, drive for change, getting organizational support, building ownership and commitment, making though decisions and developing others.  

  • Ability to deliver results timely and in a pressure filled environment.  

  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to successfully register with the state’s cannabis commission as an agent.  

  • Must be able to comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in plant science, biology, agricultural sciences, or equivalent area of study preferred. 

  • Operations or performance improvement skill sets preferred.  

  • Previous experience in a highly regulated manufacturing, packaging, and/or warehouse environment is a plus.   

 

Physical and Mental Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move and/or position oneself, communicate, operate and/or prepare, place, position objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally move packages weighing up to 50 lb. Able to stand for 90% of the time. Comfortable with heights, occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service the lights, filters, trellis netting and ceiling fans up to 25ft. Comfortable working atop and traversing scaffolding, when required. Comfortable with changing environment temperatures and humidity. Exposure to pollen, dust, dander, and other nature elements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close observation and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment: 

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
