Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic provides on-site support to facilities maintenance operations within a cannabis cultivation facility. As a Maintenance Mechanic, you are responsible for completing assigned maintenance tasks involving basic and advanced installation, inspection, and routine upkeep and repair of machines and equipment. You are the subject matter expert on equipment repair for the facility.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists. 
  • Document and troubleshoot maintenance issues involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair and replacement. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance on machines and equipment on a scheduled basis, including inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, greasing bearings, etc. 
  • Review equipment schematics to accurately disassemble and reassemble machinery. 
  • Repair mechanical equipment including pumps, gear reducers, seals, bearings, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, liquid fillers, bottle cappers, elevators, tapers, and conveyors. 
  • Repair electrical equipment including motors, motor control centers, variable speed drives, transformers, pumps, kettles, form/fill/seal equipment, shrink banders, heat tunnels, ink jet machines, labelers, and electrical controls. 
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and adjust. 
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. 
  • Report all maintenance issues to Maintenance Manager. 
  • Maintain record of scheduled maintenance procedures. 
  • Perform custodial functions to clean and maintain the building both inside and outside. 
  • Assist with the management of outside contractors for required service for the facilities and equipment. 
  • Monitor and maintain quality control measures in accordance with state and local laws. 
  • Adhere to company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). 
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the facility and production areas. 
  • Immediately inform the Maintenance Manager of any system discrepancies. 
  • Work within company continuous improvement system and strive to increase productivity. 
  • Provide support to additional cultivation, harvest, and production teams as needed to achieve facility production goals. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or equivalent area of study or technical training in facility management preferred. 
  • 3 years’ experience in commercial equipment repair and maintenance.  
  • Able to follow detailed instruction and capable of performing repetitive tasks. 
  • Must have a positive attitude and work well with others in a team environment. 
  • Must be willing to learn about, operate, and maintain facility equipment in a safe manner. 
  • Comfortable with heights, soil and water, and tight spaces. 
  • Ability to safely climb, squat, bend, twist, kneel and stand for at least 8 hours per day, and lift up to 50 pounds. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. 
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to successfully register with the state’s cannabis commission as an agent. 
  • Must comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous facilities maintenance experience in a regulated production facility (food, beverage, CPG, etc.) preferred.  

Physical and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move and/or position oneself, communicate, operate and/or prepare, place, position objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally move packages weighing up to 50 lb. Able to stand for 90% of the time. Comfortable with heights, occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service the lights, filters, trellis netting and ceiling fans up to 25ft. Comfortable working atop and traversing scaffolding, when required. Comfortable with changing environment temperatures and humidity. Exposure to pollen, dust, dander, and other nature elements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close observation and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
