Job Summary
This position is based in either Chicago, IL, or remote within the region (MD, NJ, PA, CT)
This role supports the Legal, Regulatory Compliance, and Government Affairs teams by providing leadership in overseeing the company’s global regulatory compliance program. Qualified candidates will demonstrate several years of experience as a regulatory compliance leader in a highly regulated industry.
A demonstrated track record implementing and maintaining a complex legal and regulatory compliance program for consumer-packaged goods (“CPG”) and dispensary facilities—including developing standard operating procedures and leading internal audits—is required.
The ideal candidate must have strong organizational skills, be able to work collaboratively to oversee multiple projects at once and use analytical skills to solve complex problems under rigorous timelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and implement standard operating procedures (“SOPs”), internal processes, and compliance training programs.
- Partner with operational, marketing, and commercial team leads to ensure compliant procedures are followed at all facilities.
- Develop and maintain internal audit procedures for business entities in various states and localities.
- Conduct regular, unannounced internal audits of facility operations and prepare written compliance reports to senior management.
- Assist in market expansion initiatives and engage with local municipalities as a public representative of the Company.
- Review marketing initiatives and event proposals for compliance.
- Ensure appropriate tracking of inventory and waste through various seed-to-sale software programs.
- Lead facility inspections, respond to government regulatory investigations, and conduct internal compliance audits.
- Take remedial action to address any gaps in compliance and mitigate future risks.
- Represent the Company for legal and compliance matters in front of various government agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Monitor changes to cannabis laws, regulations, and industry guidance in various states and municipalities.
- This position requires regular travel between facilities throughout the region (50-60%).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate or similar advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a highly-regulated industry.
- Experience in seed-to-sale software programs is a plus (METRC, BioTrack, MJ Freeway, etc.).
- Ability and willingness to regularly travel to facilities throughout the U.S. required.
