Job Summary

The Micropropagation Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of micropropagation at our cultivation facility. This includes responsibility for completing production-oriented tasks within the Tissue Culture Lab, including media preparation, initiating cultures, transfers and multiplication, rooting, record keeping and equipment maintenance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the tissue culture lab with primary oversight responsibilities including – initiation of new plant varieties, production planning, media preparation, sterilization, tracking plants, and all lab logistics. 
  • Develop, standardize, and optimize all technical processes within the lab, including routine updating and preparation of SOPs. 
  • Apply sterile technique to propagate tissue culture material. 
  • Log all tissue culture work and data as required. 
  • Support internal R&D efforts. 
  • Ensure that the laboratory is kept in a clean and good operating condition, including working with outside vendors as needed. 
  • Track and organize preventative maintenance, calibration, and any troubleshooting of equipment. 
  • Attend regular meetings, track performance KPIs, and provide reports to leadership. 
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate a sense of timeliness. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.  
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in a commercial cultivation facility.  
  • Three (3) years’ experience in management/leadership roles.  
  • Advanced knowledge of cannabis cultivation including organic living soil, permaculture, and horticulture.  
  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, drive for change, getting organizational support, building ownership and commitment, making though decisions and developing others.  
  • Ability to deliver results timely and in a pressure filled environment.  
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to successfully register with the state’s cannabis commission as an agent.  
  • Must be able to comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in plant science, biology, agricultural sciences, or equivalent area of study preferred.  
  • 4 year(s) of management/supervisory experience preferred.  
  • Operations or performance improvement skill sets preferred.  
  • Previous experience in a highly regulated manufacturing, packaging, and/or warehouse environment is a plus.

Physical and Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move and/or position oneself, communicate, operate and/or prepare, place, position objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally move packages weighing up to 25 lb. Able to stand for 90% of the time. Comfortable with heights, occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service the lights, filters, trellis netting and ceiling fans up to 25ft. Comfortable working atop and traversing scaffolding, when required. Comfortable with changing environment temperatures and humidity. Exposure to pollen, dust, dander, and other nature elements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close observation and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
